The white eye pieces on the costume allow the host to "see" heat in the darkness and the suit has the magnetic-like power to cling to most surfaces that can hold the host's body weight; this power is similar to that of Spider-Man's.

Offensive: Slime is able to stretch and form into detachable weapons. The undersides of the arms are able to fire organic paralyzing stinger darts and palms are able to shoot some kind of white sticky substance, produced organically by the slime itself.
Defensive: The costume itself is stretchable, durable, flame-resistant, bullet-proofed, water-proof, and strong enough to withstand a blow from a cannon ball.
Other Special Abilities: Is able to blend into backgrounds using the mimicking power similar to Agent X. The white eye pieces on the costume allow the host to "see" vibrations from motion and movements; in the darkness. It has the ability to sense the location of its brother, Venome, for a radius of two kilometers. The suit has the magnetic-like power to cling to most surfaces that can hold the host's body weight; this power is similar to that of Spider-Man's.

Project Venome was first an experiment conducted by Biotech Industries and funded by the United States Military Technology Department. The experiment was to create a highly intelligent living polymer organism, which would bond with man and enhance their limited physical abilities. In the end, the organism took the form of a black slime. The project was a success that Venome was predicted to be the super-soldier of the new Century, a secret weapon in military espionage.

But as intelligent as the slime was, one night, it escaped from the containment unit in the lab and made its way threw the drain into the sewers. After slithering under the streets of New Manhattan, the slime ended up in a subway station where a small business lawyer, Jeffrey Cain, stumbled upon it. The slime could feel the depression in Jeffrey since he was just fired from his firm. Since it was attracted to sadness and hatred, the slime accepted him as its host and slithered all over his body, covering him from head to toe. The slime also added bulk-like muscles to the confused man. Through Jeffrey's thoughts, the slime told him everything about Project Venome and his new powers that would enable him to do what he wanted, when he wanted.

Jeff immediately grew with the slime, which told him to call "themselves", Venome. He eventually found a ticket to get his job back, by threatening his boss as Venome. During the day, Jeff tried to win court cases, defending his clients. During the night, Venome prowled the city, stalking the accusers of his clients to surrender the case. Venome was a bad guy at that time, using his powers for his own purposes while other superheroes such as Spider-Man tried to stop him.

Back in Biotech Industries, the scientist realized that their living intelligent organism had escaped but leaving a trail of its slime behind. Using that slime, they conducted another experiment called Project Viper. This time, the aim of the project was for Viper, the more intelligent and powerful organism, to bring back its brother, Venome, who was at the edge of government exposure.

But little did they all know, the Viper slime didn't only want to find its brother, it also wanted to destroy it. The host? It was none other than Jeffrey's brother, Burt Cain, who was a security guard at the lab. Project Viper sensed Burt's hatred toward his brother, since he was recently a well-known and successful lawyer while he patrolled the halls, day and night. Viper also sensed Burt's connection with Jeff as a brother, whom it knew was Venome in secret. The Viper eventually broke out of the containment unit like its brother and attacked everyone in the lab. The unstoppable organism eventually slithered toward Burt and bonded with him. Using the slime covering Burt to move, Viper escaped from Biotech and made its way to the city.

Sensing "their" brother approaching, Viper blend against a wall waiting for Venome, who was stalking his next victim. Before Venome reached the man, Viper leaped at him, and both of them fought, beating the hell out of each other.

The both of them eventually stopped fighting and fled before the X-Forces and the U.S. Military arrived. Later, Jeff was seen sitting down at his office, taking care of the bruise, the replica of Venome did to him. Watching the news, he realized that Viper was also terrorizing the city, without his knowledge, searching for him. Suddenly, Viper crashed into his office and Venome came out, both fighting again.

This time, the fight ended up in Biotech Industries, where the U.S. Military had flushed them to. While witnessing a soldier nearly getting himself killed by Viper, Venome did smart move and injured Viper by throwing assorted acid chemicals vials at him. The screaming organism ooze from Burt and escaped through an air-vent. Burt, after Viper left him, slowly died after inhaling the poisonous chemical fumes. Jeffrey was shocked in sorrow upon discovering that instead of Viper, he killed his brother!

And since then, Venome had devoted himself in the ways of good, finally realizing that he was destined to be the good guy. And for the Viper? Well, it founded a new host, still possessing the hatred for its brother, Venome.

Well, the story continues after the slime that bonded with Burt Cain left, escaping through an air-vent. Eventually, it made its way through the gutter, into Dr. Carla Nelson's office. Like Burt, Viper sensed Carla's connection with Jeff (Venome) and bonded with her... because she was Jeff's girlfriend, that's why. Viper told her the same thing it told Burt except the identity of Venome, because it knew of their positive relationship. Instead, Viper told her that Venome was now going after Jeffrey, because it previously bonded with his brother, Burt.

But what she didn't know that Venome's host was actually her own boyfriend, Jeffrey Cain! Of course, Viper II taught and guided her to Venome where both fought each other without even knowing who they actually fighting with. It was a pretty big coincidence that the deceased Burt Cain was destined to become the enemy and brother of Venome and Jeffrey but now, Jeff's girlfriend?! Anyway, the fight was nearly coming to an end before busybody Spider-Man came along. Since Spidey didn't know who was really good or bad, he fought them both and the threesome got into a major situation!
